The Nova Scotia Works Employer Award celebrates businesses that lead the way in fostering inclusive and diverse workplaces. This first-of-its-kind award highlights the incredible efforts of employers across the province who go above and beyond to create equitable environments, ensuring every employee feels like they belong.

Eligibility Criteria
​
Employers will be eligible based on the following:

Have currently or have previously been connected to a Nova Scotia Works centre.

Have demonstrated a commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Accessibility (DEIBA) through their hiring, onboarding, or retention practices.
Award Categories & Selection Criteria
Small Business (50 employees or fewer):

This category recognizes small businesses that demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusion, despite having limited resources. Judges will look for:

Innovative and practical approaches to hiring and supporting diverse employees.

A focus on meaningful impact over the size or scale of initiatives.

Evidence of going above and beyond for individuals, such as tailored accommodations or personalized support.
We value creativity, compassion, and the ripple effects of small yet powerful actions.
Large Business (51 employees or more):

This category celebrates larger organizations that embed diversity, equity, and inclusion into their overall strategy. Judges will consider:​

Clear policies and formal training programs that support inclusive hiring and workplace culture.

Evidence of a structured approach with measurable outcomes.

Demonstrated impact at scale that goes beyond performative practices and creates lasting change.
We’re looking for systemic efforts that reflect leadership, accountability and commitment.
Selection Process
To ensure a fair and impartial selection process, all applications will be anonymized during the shortlisting process. The top five nominees will be chosen based on their alignment with the award’s objectives. The final winner will be chosen through a panel of judges and a weighted scoring system, with criteria based on the nominee’s responses and the impact of their DEIBA practices.
Deadline to apply is XXXXXXXXX. The winner will be announced on International Day for Persons with Disabilities on December 3, 2025.
